Introducing: Aspesi

Menswear line Aspesi has perfected functional, anti-fashion mens style. Designer Alberto Aspesi is said to ignore seasonal fashion trends and refuses catwalk shows and glossy ad campaigns. Instead, he has cultivated his line over the past 43 years by focusing on what men actually need when they shop for new clothing. 

Enter a line filled with perfected wardrobe staples with re-worked detailing. Aspesi revolves around such pieces, like bomber jackets, loose yet slimming pants, and the signature high-performance technical fabrics that resist weather elements while keeping the body comfortable. Quality shines through with fabrics like Harris tweed, Japanese cottons, and Irish linens.

The piece we are most excited to introduce this fall is the "shirt-jacket," perfect for transitional weather. This piece has the tailoring of a classic mens button-up shirt, but rendered in weather-resistant technical nylon jacket material.

Until very recently, you couldn't find Aspesi outside of its home region in Northern Italy. (The first flagship only opened in Milan in 2006.) We found the line perfectly suited to the nida aesthetic, and chose to introduce the signature nylon vests and jackets, aged cotton chinos, wool jackets and peacoats, and of course the shirts upon which the line was founded.

Introducing: Master Coat

One of our newest additions to the designer roster at nida, Master Coat embodies the charm of Italian menswear at its best.

The line is focused on high quality fabrics and the touch of precise craftsmanship. This allows for a balance between classic, masculine elements and touches of playful creativity.

Designers Alfio Sciuto and Maurizio Carli Moretti founded the label in 1988, after they had spent over a decade working in mens fashion. The brand, as well as both designers, are from Bologna, Italy. And it is in their hometown that all pieces of the collections are designed and produced - a mark of quality and craftsmanship that follows in the Italian tradition.

This fall's menswear collections at nida show our deepening commitment to bringing high quality, wearable mens looks to our customers. We can't wait to see you in these amazing new garments!

New to nida this fall: The Suits, from Antwerp, Belgium. 

Hailing from the city that introduced so many of today's most notable designers, The Suits carries on in the tradition of Antwerp's fashion design legacy. The line focuses first and foremost on quality fabrics and sharp, forward-looking tailoring. But amazingly, for suits produced at a quality level that rivals the biggest names in fashion design, these full suits are offered at an accessible price point.

The clean, refined, fitted look of The Suits is balanced with a touch rock-and-roll.

Introducing: Humanoid

New to nida this fall, the brand Humanoid perfectly complements our store's aesthetic principles. Each pieces from the collection is made of fine materials that drape beautifully while creating a mood of casual refinement.

While new at nida, Humanoid is certainly no novice in clothing design. The over 30 year old Dutch brand evolved over the years, with each new collection complementing the ones that came before. After more than three decades, they have achieved distinctiveness by staying consistent.

Their values shine through in these garments: not shouting for attention, but instead focusing on quality fabrics, contemporary design, and wearable functionality. These are the sorts of pieces that become instant wardrobe staples, layer well with everything, and in turn invite brand loyalty.

Maloles Shoes

Maloles Antignac launched her shoe line in 2004 with the introduction of her signature ballet flats. The "Georges," a slip-on, and the "Zoe," the pleated flat, are now the signature styles of the brand. She turned over a ballerina shoe and used the pleated effect around the sole as a technical and decorative approach to construction, finishing with a sophisticated bow.

Each piece is made using an artisan shoemaking practice called "Sacchetto," a form of construction that offers flexibility and comfort. The shoe envelops the foot like a glove giving more agility to the shoes which can move in every direction to fit the flexibility of the foot.

The Sacchetto styles are hand-stitched on both the interior and exterior for utmost durability. The gold stitched sole gives a decorative and elegant touch to the shoes .

Now at nida: Jamin Puech handbags

Background:

Benoit Jamin and Isabelle Puech met working at a prestigious design house and began their company in 1990, working from their small flat. Two years later they were carried in Bergdorf Goodman in NY, Corso Como in Milan and Joyce in Hong Kong. 

In 1993, their collections graced the runway presentations of Chanel, Chloé, Lagerfeld, and Balmain. In 1996, Jamin Puech opened its first flagship store in Paris and has since opened more boutiques in Paris, London, Tokyo, Osaka, Milan, Barcelona and recently opened a larger store in New York’s Soho (Prince Street). In addition to their own boutiques, Jamin Puech is distributed all over the world, across about 300 select stores.

nida is very excited to now carry Jamin Puech bags! The collection features mixed materials, handcrafted detailing, and an aesthetic that is singular and unique, something poetic and different amidst designer trend bags.

Yves Salomon Furs

Yves Salomon is a well-established Parisian furrier with over a century of family history in the fur trade. By the 1980s, the brand cemented its status in the fashion industry, collaborating with Jean-Paul Gautier and Thierry Mugler for runway collections.  (Read more on the Yves Salomon website.)

Today, Yves Salomon has multiple ready-to-wear lines, of which the namesake and "Army" lines are now in stock for fall at nida. These coats and jackets combine the luxury of fur with practical designs, allowing for a variety of styling options.

Each of these vests would look amazing over a basic long sleeve tee with jeans and boots, or dressed up with a silk dress and pumps:

A furry take on a classic minimal shape, these Kalgan lamb coats feature a more open weave, providing just the right amount of warmth for San Francisco fall weather. The shape is reminiscent of a classic 1960s coat, and would pair perfectly with voluminous trousers, or, alternately, a skirt or dress with tights.

On the more practical side (for a fur collection) we are loving this fur hoodie! Also Kalgan lamb, the body of the jacket is cape-like, with small armholes at the end of large batwing sleeves.

  

Finally, this Yves Salomon "Army" fur lined parka will most definitely keep you warm in the chilliest of weather!  The body of jacket is fully lined in fur.

Coyote and rabbit line the hood, making this one of our softest pieces.

Introducing: Carven

For fall 2011, we are very excited to begin carrying Carven for women! The label originated as a mid-twentieth century couture house headed by Madame Carven, whose approach to couture centered on a sporty, modern woman.

Since it's revival as a ready-to-wear brand in 2010, head designer Guillaume Henry has quickly risen to prominence in Paris and beyond based on his collections of expertly tailored, chic, and sexy yet modest looks.

For the fall 2011 collection, he cited Simone de Beauvoir and Lee Miller as muses, calling his look bonne maniére, meaning "to be properly dressed; I can't fight what I like," according to style.com. Check out the  beautiful and moody "showtation" (Henry's combination fashion show/presentation as an alternative to a traditional catwalk) video at Carven's website.

At nida, we are loving this collection of unique coats and jackets, plaid and draped tops, voluminous skirts, and especially the structured handbags in waxed leather. This is a collection that exudes everyday luxury, refined taste, and smart dressing, with an air of dark, intelligent mystery.
